April 11, 2024

Join SouthPark Magazine and Wheel Serve NC for an exciting, competitive day of tennis for a great cause!

Saturday, June 1 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Olde Providence Racquet Club

A round-robin style competition for 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5+ divisions, with winning players in each division paired with local tennis pros for a championship round. Enjoy food + drink, a player reception, terrific prizes and the chance to win some great giveaways!

Top wheelchair tennis players will also compete and be featured in a separate Pro-Am. Able-body players will have an opportunity to play with wheelchair players during the competition and are invited to sponsor a wheelchair player.

Tickets to participate are $125 per player, which includes food during play and the player reception following the Pro-Am round. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Wheel Serve NC, a nonprofit statewide tennis organization that provides opportunities for people in wheelchairs to play tennis recreationally and competitively.

“Thank you for putting together such a great event! Dawn and I had the best time. We are going to volunteer with Wheel Serve. They were awesome. Look forward to being a part of it next year!” — Kim Wojnowich, Rallies & Rackets, sponsor & player

Details for the day:

TENNIS COMPETITION STRUCTURE:

  • Combined wheelchair and able-bodied divisional round-robin style play. Each player will total 3 rounds of timed matches — 30 minutes of play per round.
  • Divisions based on 3.0, 3.5-, 4.0- and 4.5+-level players: depending on registrations, pairings may be gender neutral with every effort to provide level-based play.
  • Wheelchair players, paired with able-bodied players, will play rounds on hard courts and use the same point scoring system, ending with a wheelchair championship match paired with a professional for the top two players with highest game count.
  • Competition is individual-based. Each player will have a tally of games won and the top two players with highest game count in each division will qualify for the final match paired with a local professional tennis player. Wheelchair championship will be played on a hard court. Able-bodied championships will be played on Courts 2-4 (3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5+), and there will be an exhibition doubles match with four local pros.
