RESTAURANT NEWS
SouthPark, specifically Piedmont Row, has a cozy new place to gather and grab a drink or bite. The Loft at Duckworth’s just opened January 18. The concept is “classic cocktails done well.” The Loft is split into two rooms: The Lounge (that’s the room where the bar is, pictured) and The Living Room. It’s the latest venture from restaurateur Rob Duckworth (Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse, Link & Pin and The Cellar at Duckworth’s). Here’s a look at more pictures of the inside and menu.
Lots of changes on the food + drink scene in South End to tell you about this week. Longtime vegan foodie destination Living Kitchen closed at Atherton Mill on January 15. A notice on its website reads in part, “It has been our pleasure to serve you over the last 12 years. We will be forever grateful for your support.” Meanwhile, a new Salata just opened at The Station at LoSo, 3700 South Blvd. That makes three locations of the fast-casual, healthy eating spot in Charlotte. Folly Beach favorite, Taco Boy, will soon be a neighbor. An opening is planned for January 30. Expect a festive, vibrant atmosphere (which includes a mural by Charlotte artist Jen Hill) and fresh Mexican-inspired cuisine — plus DJ’s and a spacious rooftop.
SHINE ON
On the heels of the 10th anniversary Blumey Awards Celebration this month at Blumenthal Performing Arts, two previous winners continue to shine brightly. 2018 Blumey Awards Best Actress Winner Reneé Rapp is reprising her Broadway role as Regina George in the new Mean Girls movie just released in theaters. And 2014 Blumey Awards Best Actress Winner Eva Noblezada, a two-time Tony nominee for Miss Saigon and Hadestown, will star as Daisy Buchanan in the new Broadway musical, Great Gatsby this spring. Both are graduates of the CMS magnet school, Northwest School of the Arts.
GAME NIGHT OR MOVIE NIGHT
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings just got more fun. Camp North End is hosting retro game night tournaments (Thursdays), a ’90s movie series (Fridays), and a classic horror film series (Saturdays) in the Ford Building through March. Game night features classics like Mario Kart, arcades and a Nintendo-inspired “living room” area featuring open play on your favorite old-school gaming systems. On the big screen, revisit 90s hits like Something About Mary, Armageddon and The Blair Witch Project.
