Summit splendor

Isabelle & Drew Boyd
Jefferson | 7.20.24

Isabelle and Drew always thought they would elope to a beautiful place where they could explore and be surrounded by nature. But after their engagement, Drew had second thoughts. “He really wanted a big, impactful day with friends and family and to see me in a white dress,” Isabelle says.

A visit to Summit on Cross Mountain in Jefferson solidified the decision to change course.

The Charlotte couple — who met as sophomores at N.C. State University — got engaged during a hike in Asheville and often spent weekends in West Jefferson and other mountain towns. “The venue is stunning,” Isabelle says. “We were excited to show our friends and family from all over how special the town is and all our favorite spots.”

Isabelle and her mom Tori, an interior designer, took charge of the planning for the modern, romantic celebration filled with pops of peach, pink and coral and sunny mountain florals. Isabelle’s dress, with its long train and flowy vibe, felt just right. “It was perfect for the mountains and had tiny little Swiss dots and netted fabric that I knew my textile-engineer husband would love and find unique. I loved how different it was and felt so much like me.”

Drew’s dad served as officiant for the mountainside ceremony. Thirty minutes before, the skies turned dark and stormy, but blue skies prevailed. At the reception, specialty cocktails included Isabelle’s Passion Fizz — modeled after one of the couple’s favorite drinks from Charlotte restaurant Yunta — and Drew’s Transfusion, a frequent libation on beach vacations. A seating chart featured acrylic flowers hung from an arbor. Instead of a traditional cake, guests savored a selection of blueberry crumble cheesecake trifle, creme brulee and dark chocolate espresso pots de crème.

The couple honeymooned at Nayara Tented Camp in Arenal National Park, Costa Rica — a destination similar to the one they had originally envisioned for their elopement. A blend of luxury and nature, they experienced firsthand views of sloths, monkeys, birds and butterflies followed by a few days at the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo. “We love nature, hiking and wildlife,” Isabelle says. “We had an incredible time.”
