Get ready for more construction in SouthPark. This time, it’s the mall getting a major redevelopment, designed to attract new shoppers and keep loyal visitors coming to the south Charlotte shopping destination.
The revamping includes extensive upgrades to the West Plaza, which is adjacent to The Container Store and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Suffolk Punch Brewing plans to launch its second location in the plaza, which will also have an open-air pavilion, new green space and play area, plus a stage.
SouthPark general manager Randy Thomas calls the redevelopment transformational. “Charlotte-area shoppers expect first-class amenities,” Thomas says about the redevelopment further elevating the shopper’s experience at SouthPark.
Suffolk Punch Brewing will feature a nearly 400-seat taphouse, restaurant, and coffee bar and an all-season outdoor pavilion. Executive Chef Michael Rayfield will lead the kitchen, bringing Suffolk’s eclectic menu to south Charlotte. The original Suffolk Punch opened in South End nearly five years ago as a creative home to craft brews and creative plates.
At SouthPark, shoppers will soon be able to take a break and sip on a seasonal beer or curated cocktail while enjoying live music at the West Plaza’s new stage. Visitors can expect local, family-friendly performances to take the stage throughout the year.
On the opposite end of the plaza, the new play area will be accessible to children of all ages and those with disabilities. The creative play space will have a rolling hill with integrated slides and cubbyholes.
Construction is expected to be complete by late summer. Though the West Plaza will be closed during construction, the property and its retailers will remain open. SP
