Komal Mathur & Pranav Trivedi

She’s bubbly, spontaneous and an extrovert. He’s calm, grounded and an introvert. But when Komal moved from North Carolina to New York City for a marketing job, her cousin and a friend felt she and Pranav might be a match. The two eventually connected, meeting at a bar on the waterfront and soon falling in love.
To propose, Pranav, a clinical pharmacist, rented an art gallery in Chelsea, creating an exhibit of special moments the couple had shared. “I wanted to use Komal’s passion for art,” he says. “I set up easels with our photos on canvases, and accompanying those were letter scrolls of what those moments meant to me and for our relationship. At the last easel the canvas said ‘Our next chapter,’ and I read a letter to Komal finally asking her to marry me.”
Charlotte was an ideal wedding location to bring both families traveling from the East Coast together. Visits during the planning process for the couple were easy, since Komal’s parents live in the Queen City (she attended Myers Park High School). The Grand Bohemian Charlotte was the perfect choice for the ceremony and reception. “When we found the Grand Bohemian, we were ecstatic to find that not only is it a gorgeous hotel, but it had a focus on art which brought us full circle to our proposal’s theme,” Komal says. “Our main priority wasn’t the external details of the wedding but being able to have our closest family and friends there with us and creating an atmosphere of utmost love to share with them.”
The joyous Indian celebration included a welcome party at Hi-Wire Brewing and pre-wedding rituals such as the haldi, mehndi and baraat, the groom’s wedding processional. The couple opted not to do a first look, preferring to wait to see each other at the mandap (altar). They chose an Italian theme for the reception — a nod to their favorite cuisine and their Italian honeymoon — and gave guests bottles of rosemary-infused olive oil as favors. Relatives entertained the couple with special toasts and surprise choreographed performances. “When you’re planning, you can get consumed by the logistics, but when all of your loved ones are in one place, the happiness and joy are magnanimous,” Komal says. “Things may go wrong, but it’s the energy, happiness and love all around you that you’ll remember most.”
