“Our biggest priority was making sure that the wedding felt right for us,” says Leanna of her uptown wedding to Gerald. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t get caught up in fads or get lost in all the social media ideas… our vision for the day was classic, stress-free and fun.”
Lively music and good food were important to the couple, who kept the celebration intimate. “The day was really family-focused and close-knit,” says Leanna, a family and sports medicine physician at Atrium Health. Leanna’s brother served as officiant; Gerald’s brother was best man; and his nephew was ring bearer. Readings were done by Gerald’s sister and Leanna’s uncle.
Gerald, a mental-health therapist, was born in Haiti and moved to Philadelphia when he was 7. During the reception, he and Leanna stepped away to video chat with Gerald’s mom, who still lives in Haiti. Other special moments for the couple included some private time together before the reception, their first look and sharing of private vows, golden hour photos, and dancing.
