Ever afters: Emily & Alex Garcia

8.3.24

For Emily and Alex, their wedding centered around celebrating with the people they love most. A longtime family friend and pastor married the couple — who met as sophomores at UNC Chapel Hill — at Belk Chapel. Alex wore a custom suit with ram cuff links for their alma mater, and Emily wore her sister’s wedding earrings. “It was a beautiful ceremony,” says Emily, a Charlotte native. “Personal and pointed toward Christ — just how we wanted.”

The reception was at Carmel Country Club, where Emily’s family has been members for over 20 years. The flowers — dahlias are a favorite — were an important detail to the bride, who wanted to incorporate plenty of color. “Essentially I wanted the flowers to reflect the mood of the day: happy, joyful and fun.”

The couple opted for Brick Street Cafe’s sweet potato cake for dessert — a staple at special occasions for Emily’s family — and ended the evening with warm doughnuts from Milkbread, one of their favorite Queen City treats. “We had so many compliments on those little details, and it was sweet to share something we love so much with our guests.”
