Three’s a charm for Dilworth Tasting Room. The neighborhood wine bar with popular spots in Dilworth and SouthPark opens a new and distinctly different location in Plaza Midwood.

The original Dilworth Tasting Room is known for its lush brick patio. DTR SouthPark brings a fresh, modern vibe to its busy spot in Ashley Square. DTR Plaza Midwood promises to deliver on the same Mediterranean-inspired menu and extensive drink list, but it has a vibe all its own.

Owners Jaffer and Zoe Kovic re-designed the space to be sleek and modern with an artsy flair. The interior has a cozy art deco-inspired decor with dark tones, gold embellishments and deep leather booths. There’s also a lighter, vibrant side with three large murals painted by Meredith Riggins, as well as Croatian and statement art pieces hung gallery-style on the walls.

And of course, there’s a strong patio aesthetic. The outdoor space has room for 72 people and has a special feature not found at any other DTR — an old school play horse. It’s bound to create some photo-worthy moments. A garden area is also in the works.

“We are very proud to be a locally grown business, embedded in the vibrant and fun Charlotte neighborhoods where we’re able to bring a piece of our Croatian heritage, along with inspirations from our Mediterranean travels,” the Kovics shared in a statement about the opening. They want DTR Plaza Midwood to be a “memorable and artistic dining experience.”

Longtime DTR Chef Jonathan Shuler crafted the dinner menu which features dishes like Crni Rizoto (traditional Croatian cuttlefish risotto in ink), Grilled Octopus, Fried Calamari, Seared Tuna, Croatian Kebabs, Skampi ‘Buzara’ (traditional Croatian shrimp dish), and Cevapi. The cocktail menu will include classics, seasonal drinks, and several spirit-free options crafted by bar manager Alejandro Ibanez.

Their timing is perfect. This latest DTR iteration has a good chance of being a big player during patio season, just like its sister restaurants. The team plans to launch brunch in September, as well as Flight Night.
