Charlotte & Clayton Roberts
Figure Eight Island | 4.27.24
For Charlotte and Clayton, the focus of their Figure Eight Island wedding was the ceremony and celebrating with friends and family. “My biggest priority when planning the wedding was making sure it was an easy and fun experience for our guests,” says Charlotte. “We really wanted it to feel like a vacation for everyone.”
Growing up in the Queen City, Charlotte spent her summer vacations on the island — once she and Clayton began dating, they began making memories there, too. The couple met through mutual friends after college, with their first date on the rooftop of Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails in South End. “I vividly remember talking for so long that the restaurant closed while we were there,” Charlotte says. “We haven’t gone a day without talking since that night!”
“Tastefully striking” was the mood Charlotte kept in mind as she made her wedding choices. A fan of neutrals and adding texture and florals for detail, Charlotte initially considered all-white flowers but opted for more color at the reception on the advice of planner Ivy Robinson.
Dinner was served on one side of the tent, with the reception area and dance floor hidden from view. During the couple’s first dance after dinner, the drapes opened to reveal the rest of the space. “The dinner side of the tent was vibrant, featuring bright spring colors and a fabric-draped ceiling, while the dance side had a clear top and neutral tones, offering a more ethereal feel,” Robinson says. “It was two completely different experiences under one tent.”
Patterns from the invitations were reflected in custom chandeliers and on the dance floor. On-site artists took photos of each wedding guest upon arrival, painting their portraits as party favors. Charlotte and Clayton skipped some traditional moments like speeches (they were done at the rehearsal dinner), cake cutting (they did this while guests ate dinner) and the bouquet toss, preferring more time with guests.
Charlotte’s favorite moments? A getting-ready robe her mom had made from her own wedding dress, the stunning flowers and a celebration with those who meant the most to her and Clayton. “Looking around during the height of the reception and seeing everyone we know and love in one place… I’ll hold that memory close for a long time.”
