The Queen City’s literary tradition supports the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, and this year’s lineup includes Elliot Ackerman (Dark at the Crossing, a finalist for the National Book Award) and Paula McClain (The Paris Wife). Christmas is coming early this year at Charlotte’s 51st-annual Southern Christmas Show. Over 450 vendors will gather to showcase gifts, décor, treats, and other holiday-themed goodies at the Park Expo and Conference Center, 800 Briar Creek Road. Guests can also enjoy the designer showrooms, live caroling, and Santa. Tickets are $13 for adults, and $4 for children, ages 6 to 12. Free for children 5 and under. southernchristmasshow.com

Laugh till your sides hurt at the Jeff Dunham: Passively Aggressive show at Spectrum Center, 333 E. Trade St. Dubbed “America’s favorite comedian” by Slate, this hilarious ventriloquist will be bringing his famous cast of characters—including Achmed, Peanut, Walter, José, and Bubba J—at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $77. jeffdunham.com

At the Charlotte Auto Show, over 30 manufacturers, including Ferrari, Maserati, and Porsche, will be showcasing cars for you to admire, drive, and buy. The show starts at noon on Thursday and Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the Charlotte Convention Center, 501 S College St. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and kids under 12 get in free. charlotteautoshow.com

At the U.S. National Whitewater Center’s Zipline and Dine, you’ll get to soar through the trees on a 1,625-foot zipline. Explore ropes bridges and platforms before going on a short hike back to the center, where a chef-curated three-course meal will be waiting.
