Fourth of July fun: Where to watch fireworks and celebrate
June 20, 2024
Looking for Fourth of July fun around Charlotte? Here are a few ideas on where to enjoy fireworks and celebrate Independence Day in 2024. Check back often, we’ll update our list as new Fourth of July events are announced.
JUNE 30
- Celebrate the 4th a few days early on Sunday and head to Symphony Park for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Pops Celebrate America! show and fireworks display. Gates open at 5 p.m. and fireworks start at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the gate.
JULY 3-4
- Have some festive fun in Matthews during two events. There’s a free Fireworks Spectacular which launches from the Mecklenburg Co. Sportsplex at 9 p.m. on July 3. Enter the Sportsplex (2425 Sports Parkway) from Brigman Road and park in the Area A lots, the stadium lots, or along the roadside. On Independence Day, head to Stumptown Park for a free July 4th celebration with food trucks, live music, kids’ activities and patriotic fun from 5-9 p.m., 120 S Trade Street, Matthews.
- For two nights, The Whitewater Center is hosting a July 4th celebration. There will be live music, yoga, a 5K trail race on the 4th, and other WWC pass activities. Events span all day, but live music starts later. New in 2024, Whitewater introduces Night Ops — pass activities (kayaking, ziplines and more) will be specially illuminated to add to the celebration. Free to attend, but parking is $12. Fireworks are not planned this year.
- Carowinds will celebrate with patriotic music and a fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will be visible throughout the park, but the best viewing areas are Carolina Boardwalk, County Fair and Celebration Plaza.
- The annual SkyShow is a 4th of July tradition. The Charlotte Knights take on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Truist Field to kick off this celebration-filled evening. Purchase tickets here, or view the fireworks following the game from Romare Bearden Park, across the street. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. on July 4. Tickets are likely to sell out early.
JULY 4
- Head to the Charlotte Museum of History for an educational experience on the 4th this year. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., celebrate with new Americans during an Oath and Naturalization Ceremony presented by the museum. Entry is free, but registration is encouraged.
