B.R.A.K.E.S. Gala
The Reason: The 11th-annual event, held Oct. 12 at Quail Hollow Country Club, supports the mission of “Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe,” which aims to improve, train and educate teenage drivers and their parents.
The Buzz: Hosted by Felix Sabates, guests of the Havana Nights-themed gala danced long into the night to the music of Caliente! FOX Sports’ Jeff Hammond and John Roberts served as masters of ceremonies.

Verse & Vino
The Reason: The Nov. 1 féte at the Charlotte Convention Center celebrated the written word and raised funds for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation.
The Buzz: New York Times best-selling authors Elliot Ackerman, Lou Berney, Casey Gerald, Paula McLain, and Julia Reed headlined the merry evening of stories, food, and wine.

Care Ring Hope For Community Health Luncheon
The Reason: Held Oct. 11 at the Westin Hotel, the annual luncheon brought together professionals and volunteers in support of health services for those in need.
The Buzz: Arrington Mixon of The Leon Levine Foundation was honored for her work in the community with the Maribelle Connerat Award, named for Care Ring’s founder.

International House Gala
The Reason: The 30th-annual benefit to assist Charlotte’s immigrants and globally minded residents through services that include educational, legal, and international exchange programs was held Oct. 13 at Le Meridien Charlotte.
The Buzz: Themed “South Africa—Land of Beauty and Splendour,” the festivities included cocktails, fine cuisine, and dancing, along with both silent and live auctions.

Pink Boots Ball
The Reason: The Oct. 27 event at the Ritz-Carlton hotel celebrated Carolina Breast Friends’ 15th anniversary while honoring those who have fought breast cancer.
The Buzz: This year’s ball featured emcee Ramona Holloway of 107.9 The Link, along with splashes of pink everywhere, the nonprofit’s signature butteres, and, of course, pink boots.
